The protagonist of ‘Trash’ are three disadvantage young boys that are living in extreme poverty. this theme of poverty reflects the circumstances for many children in the Philippines. Mulligan effectively integrates a simile, “thin as a whip” to allow the audience to imagine a skinny, malnourished boy.this evokes sympathy in the responder as we come to realise the extent of the issue. it is therefore, evident that starvation and limited access to basic needs is prevalent with the Philippines.
