The Gulf War Oil Spill was not a coincidence. It was the end result of a war, at some point of the Gulf battle in 1991. As the Iraqi forces withdrew from Kuwait, they opened pipelines as well as the valves of oil wells and set the place on fire as a measure to block the forces of USA from landing within the area.
Due to the Gulf War, around 240 million gallons of oil are believed to have been discharged into the Persian Gulf, killing loads of fishes and marine mammals. As of August 16, more than 7,000 birds, sea turtles and dolphins have been discovered dead or half alive in the Persian Gulf as a consequence of the oil spill.
