I am going to write about my personal strengths and weaknesses. I would like to start out by going over my personal strengths. Then I will go over some of my personal weaknesses. Finally, I will compose a plan of action to take to improve on my weaknesses.
When it comes to strengths I don’t usually pay attention. I believe one of my personal strengths in communication is that I can talk to just about anyone. I enjoy talking with people. In communication, my strength would be that I have the ability to listen as well as respond. I enjoy having a conversation with people in different cultures because it gives me a chance to learn more about the lifestyle. I have learned to communicate well with people because I am an outgoing person. I find that is much easier for me to communicate when I have knowledge of the conversation being discussed
My weakness in communication is when I have to speak in front of the class, or in front of a very large group of people. I become very nervous because I think that they are more focused on me then on the information that I will be saying. I work at the weakness by having the personal strength to try to make what I am saying enjoyable so that the focus will not be so much on me but the information being presented. I have learned through the years that it’s important to stay focused on your strength and not your weaknesses and to realize that for the most part everybody else is probably just as nervous as I am. I have the strength in the fact that I can talk about my subjects very freely. I try to communicate just the point I’m trying to make and have the points understandable to those were listening. I also have a weakness in my nonverbal communication skills. The weakness is that sometimes my body language will give a different answer than I would have said. When I am using nonverbal communication as a point of contact I will point out or agree to something from just listening to this topic being discussed. I focus on my nonverbal communication skills because I want the nonverbal to be just as understandable as the verbal. With nonverbal communication, I try to give more eye contact so that there is no misunderstanding of the communication intended. I find nodding your head helps in nonverbal communication because a nod can say a lot. In my communication skills, I’ve learned that if I highlight the strengths then the weakness would not be so obvious.
I believe that life is a learning experience and being able to recognize our own strengths and weaknesses can help us become better individuals in anything we choose to do, whether it is positive abilities and skills that can help achieve our goals or negative personal areas that need improvement. Knowing yourself and what you can do, can help you recognize and overcome your weaknesses.
